University of Verona Trains SH+ and DWM Helpers for ADVANCE
In November 2024, the ADVANCE team at the University of Verona hosted a comprehensive training session for facilitators of two World Health Organization (WHO) stress management interventions—Self Help Plus (SH+) and Doing What Matters in Times of Stress (DWM).
The training, designed to prepare helpers for the ADVANCE trial and related projects, lasted six days: two for DWM and four for SH+.
SH+ is a five-session stress management course based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), emphasizing values-driven living and emotional regulation. Delivered via pre-recorded audio and an illustrated guide, it is suitable for large groups and adaptable to diverse cultural contexts.
DWM, also ACT-based, provides individual online support through weekly guided sessions, supplemented by brief contacts with trained helpers.
Four facilitators were recruited and trained for the ADVANCE trial. These facilitators are individuals with migration backgrounds and a passion for caring and supporting others.
The pilot study will begin in the first quarter of 2025, following delivery of further trainings in December 2024 and January 2025.
