Top European mental health groups kick off ADVANCE project
Europe takes a significant step forward in mental health promotion and prevention with the launch of the ADVANCE project. Hosted in Copenhagen, Denmark, on August 28-29, 2023, the project kick-off meeting brought together partners from across the continent.
Answering the EU's call for a healthier Europe, ADVANCE aims to tackle pressing mental health challenges through a collaborative effort.
"ADVANCE will provide politicians and practitioners with hands-on strategies to prevent mental health concerns and promote initiatives for vulnerable segments of the population," says Wietse Anton Tol, a professor of global mental health at the University of Copenhagen who leads the project.
The project's goals include documenting current obstacles, devising implementation strategies, and reducing stigma associated with mental health issues. At its core, ADVANCE will evaluate and improve mental health interventions and support their scale-up.
The consortium driving ADVANCE comprises a powerhouse of institutions, including the University of Copenhagen (UCPH), Central Institute of Mental Health (CIMH), Mental Health Europe (MHE), University of Turku (UTU), Heidelberg University Hospital (UKHD), Institute of Public Health, University of Porto (ISPUP), University of Verona (UNIVR), Vilnius University (VU), University Amsterdam (VUA), World Health Organization (WHO), and University of Geneva (UNIGE).
By pooling expertise, ADVANCE seeks to shape the future of mental health care in Europe, offering innovative solutions and driving transformative change.
